Highland resort with the History and an artistic atmosphere
Karuizawa, on a highland of 1,000 meters, has developed as an international summer resort since a Canadian missionary built a summer house in 1888. There are many cultural assets such as the former Mikasa Hotel or the Shaw Chapel in the town. Together with many art galleries, the town is creating a classical and sophisticated atmosphere. The town comprises five areas, and one of them is shin-kyu Karuizawa area. Here, you can visit a memorial hall which preserves the former villas once owned by the distinguished people, churches and art galleries. In Shiozawa area, the Karuizawa Taliesin is located where art galleries, a highland library, an English rose garden and restaurants are at the lakeside of Lake Shiozawa.
