Walking around the crater and view Mt. Fuji
This is a dormant volcano designated as a National Natural Monument, and a symbol of the Izukogen highlands with its beautiful dome shape. Being one of Mt. Amagi side volcanoes, there is a mortar-shaped crater, 300m in diameter and 70m in depth, lying on top of the 580m-mountain. As the entire mountain is covered with kaya grass, or sedge family grass, seasons change the color of the mountain-from fresh green in spring, deep green in summer, silver pampas grass in autumn, to withering color and burnt black grass in winter. You can reach the summit by cable car, and enjoy the panoramic view of Sagami bay, the Seven Islands of Izu, the Amagi mountain range, and Mt. Fuji, while walking around the crater or ‘Ohachi-meguri’. It is an unforgettable refreshing experience.
