About

Washi (Japanese paper)-making of Echizen city has a history of about 1500 years. Echizen washi or paper has been made carefully using traditional tools, and used for letters, envelops, wallpapers and paper screens. Here you will find young people enjoying papermaking using traditional techniques. There are three halls: ‘Papyrus House’ 窶錀 you can experience traditional papermaking. ‘Udatu Paper & Craft Museum’ 窶錀 you can watch the skills of papermaking artisans. ‘Paper & Culture Museum’ 窶錀 documents of 1500-year history are exhibited. You can walk around Japanese paper town, Goka area, by following recommended routes, and pay a visit to two shrines dedicated to paper deities, which can be seen only here in Japan.
