Enjoy ‘Maccha’ or the powdered green tea viewing the celebrated Japanese garden

Five old temples north of Lake Hamana "Ryotan-ji Temple"

About

This old temple was founded by ‘Gyoki’, a Buddhist monk in 733. The Japanese-style garden, which was designed by Kobori Enshu, an accomplished garden designer, changes its breathtaking beauty in each season. The garden style, called as ‘Chisen-kanshoshiki’ (lit. the pond and spring viewing) consists of 3 stones, which are a guardian stone, a Deva king stone and a worship stone respectively, the pond in the shape of the Chinese character ‘mind’, arranged rocks, and planting, and furthermore, such seasonal flowers and blossoms as azaleas in spring, white enkianthus and maple leaves in autumn give the touch of color to the garden. Enjoy the celebrated garden, which is the only one garden designated as the natural monument in Tokai region, to your heart content. To have a bowl of powered green tea in a drawing room or hands-on experience of copying of a sutra with calligraphy brush are other highlights.
