A variety of excellent sweets of specialties in Shizuoka

Sweets

About

Other than well-known cakes and sweets of time-honored confectionaries, you will find a variety of sweets using local specialties in Shizuoka Prefecture such as tea, strawberries, oranges, eels, sakuraebi (small pink shrimp), and wasabi or Japanese horseradish. Having these products, you can enjoy the natural flavors of ingredients. The examples of those using tea alone are ocha yokan (red-bean jelly with tea flavor), gyokuro kasutera (sponge cake with the flavor of refined green tea called gyokuro), tea-flavor puddings, tea-flavor cookies, green-tea wafers, tea-seed boro (small roundish cookies), green-tea caramels, tea candies, and so on. You will even find tea-flavor “Kokko”, a steamed cake, a very popular souvenir of Shizuoka. Tea leaves grown in Asahina area, famous for high-grade green tea, gyokuro, production, are used in this product. Recently, tea shops have started to originally develop tea-flavor baumkuchen and green-tea fresh shortbread, and they are becoming quite popular.
