Green Tea

About

Shizuoka reminds people of “sencha” or green tea of Japan, and the tea ranks No.1 in popularity list of souvenirs among foreign tourists. Green tea can be divided into different categories based on its production method. A category of “sencha” actually has two types; one is a regular type made from fresh leaves which were harvested and steamed to produce green tea. This method preserves fresh green color. Another one is called “fukamushi sencha” which requires a longer steaming time in order to control bitterness. Both teas provide radiant aroma and profound taste of green tea of Japan. Shizuoka ranks No.1 with its area of green tea fields as well as its production volume in Japan. Throughout the year, you can buy “Shizuoka tea” made of 100% domestic green tea of the prefecture as a local brand.
