Seafood of Mikawa Bay

Naturally grown tiger puffer; new local special dish

Seafood of Mikawa Bay

About

Mikawa Bay boasts to have a good amount of catches including clams, which rank in top levels of catches nationwide, as well as prawns, squillas, flatfish and sea eels. Recently, tiger puffer fishing in autumn and winter has been prosperous in the bay together with Ise Bay and Sea of Enshu. Therefore, many of hot spring accommodations highlight dishes of naturally grown tiger puffer as their specialties. Chefs and cooks are competing to provide well-planned menus because the tiger puffer is considered as the best one among all the puffer fish which is expensive food. In addition, Himakajima Island in the bay is nicknamed “an island of octopus and puffer fish”, and you can enjoy good dishes of octopus, too. Another tourist spot, Irago is a place where you can eat large clams freshly barbecued with soy sauce. There you can fully enjoy foods blessed with seaside flavor.
