Mikimoto Pearl Island Co., Ltd.
Mikimoto Pearl Island was the first place to develop cultured pearls. The island’s museum showcases pearls from the perspective of nature, humanity and industry, while the Memorial Hall introduces Kokichi Mikimoto, founder of cultured pearls who pioneered the industry and brought a great deal of prosperity to Toba, his hometown.

- The Pearl Museum offers information about the process of developing cultured pearls and how they are created and also exhibits some antique jewelry and artistic works using pearls. Visitors can watch women (known as “Ama”) dive into the sea and catch oysters containing these pearls and participate in a workshop to make mobile phone straps from them.
